eHarmony Update

So it would appear that eHarmony has a sense of humor.  For some reason, they think the best type of guys for me are those that are in the military that like to take shirtless selfies in the gym.  Ummm, no.  They also seem to think that I want guys that are 10 years younger or 10 years older.   Umm, not working for me either.  Or my personal favorite... the match that I already knew.  Yep.  It happened.

The three other guys that I have met in person have faded out of the picture.  Well, one is still in the picture, but only as a friend.  Yeah, we had the let's just be friends talk.  But that's okay.  He is a great guy and will be a great friend to have around.

But it appears that eHarmony may have gotten it right on February 27th, with a match that so far is a great fit.   I met him last week for the first time in person.  We met at Starbucks after work (yeah I know that I don't drink coffee, but it is a great place to meet someone for the first time and there is always hot cocoa and decaf mochas around) and then went to dinner at Bonefish Grill to keep the conversation going.   4 1/2 hours later he walked me to my car.

He even watched basketball with me on Thursday.  Now, it wasn't a true test because the Heels weren't playing, but it was a good start.

Only time will tell what will happen with this match.  We are taking things one day and one date at a time.  However, I will say one thing...... there has been a smile on my face since Wednesday that doesn't seem to want to go away.

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

And nope, it's not Christmas time.   Even though it feels like it could be because the cold weather still lingers around.  I sense a turning point.  I see the sun.  I see the flowers.   But most importantly, it's March.  And we all know what happens in March.  Well at least those of you who have any liking of college sports knows what happens in March.  It's time for March Madness.   It's time for some basketball.  And I mean hard core basketball.

It's the time of the year when my social life will revolve around basketball.  It's the time of the year that I don't make plans until the brackets are posted and times are announced. It's the time of the year that I tell people, I will come over, but the games have to be on.

It's the time of the year when I pick my favorites.  It's time to fill in the brackets.  It's time to talk some smack.  It's the time of the year that I turn into a fanatic.  Okay, well maybe I am a fanatic all year round.  But this time of the year, I know I get worse.   It's the time of the year when my TV stays tuned to ESPN, CBS and all of the other cable affiliates that will be the home of basketball for the next few weeks. It's the time of the year that I watch more then one game....I mean isn't that what a laptop is for.  And who has an iPad that I can borrow?

It's time for beer, wings and other junk food.  It's time for yelling.  It's time for upsets, bracket busters, bubble teams, Cinderellas (and I am not talking Disney Princesses in this post), and it's time for my Heels to dig in and play some ball.  And I mean some real ball.  Time to run the court.  Grab those rebounds and score.  And please, oh please, make your free throws.

It's the time of year that I scare some of my friends.  It's the time of year when I just don't leave the house at night unless it's to go to a sports bar.  And this year, I hope it's the time that I attract a guy that will watch the craziness with me.  Or maybe I should just put a pause on my dating until after the Madness is over.   I may scare someone away.

So as the month of March gets going... I promise I am not crazy....I'm just a college basketball fan.....A UNC Tarheel fan at that.     Because I AM a TARHEEL!!

And this is how we roll at the office....

Online Dating Take 2

Okay, so with some urging of friends and co-workers, I have decided to try online dating again.  This time I did some research on all of the different websites out there and choose eHarmony.

So during the great Snowmageddon or Snowapocalypse of 2014 (whatever name you want to call the snow storm that we had a couple of weeks ago), I sat down in my sweats, draped my UNC blanket over my legs, had Hobbes curled up beside me and with a BIG glass of red wine started my profile.

Before eHarmony will let you actually write your profile or upload any pictures, you have to go through a series of questions.  It took me an hour to just do this portion.  Then I spent about another hour uploading pictures and answering the questions that actually get posted to your profile.

And when I was done, I proof read it all and then clicked done. And poof..there was my profile.  My passions, my likes, my wants, my pictures all on a screen.   A screen that would hopefully be looked at by potential princes.

And then they show you the screen where you have to put your credit card number in.  You have the option of not paying for the service but you don't get to see pictures and you can't "communicate" past a certain point.   I decided I would wait a day and see if I got any action.

Well, I did and thanks to another snow day, I bit the bullet and put in the digits.  And then the real fun began.

Only time will tell if I have as much fun with all of the dates as I did the last time.   But I have decided that I am probably not going to share as much about my dates this time around.  But who knows, that may change.  I will just see how it goes.

But for those of you who want to keep tally--- I have met three guys in person and chatted online with a few others.   I even had a date last 3 1/2 hours one night -- it involved getting kicked out of Caribou because it was closing time.  I have eaten a few meals, had some coffee, watched some basketball, gone to the park, watched a movie and had numerous beers. So yeah, you do the math... I have seen two of the guys more then once.  I will admit that one was a one and done.

I promise to keep you all posted on my search for my Prince.  This Princess is going to find the man of her dreams and is going to get to live happily ever after.

Thank You

So this week has been full of lots of emotions.  There has been ups and there have been downs.  However, I did not have to journey through this week by myself.  I am so thankful for all of you that have been "here" to support me ---- This one year mark.

A year ago, I stood in front of the church and gave a similar speech--- Here it is for those that may have missed it:

This will sound more like a speech at the Oscars, but at least I am not standing up here in some fancy ball gown or tux that is way over the top.  But if you are curious as to what I am wearing, just ask me later and I will give you the information.   Even though Mom would be quite pleased that I have on my pearls and pantyhose and that I am not wearing black, well, except for my shoes, but that doesn't count.

I know that Mom would want me to be the polite Southern girl that she raised me to be and thank everyone.  She would also want me to make sure that I thank you properly.  So I will verbally tell everyone thank you now and I promise that the proper thank you notes will be going out soon.  I found her secret stash and will use each and every one of them.

Mom will be the first to admit that she never taught me how to cook and takes full responsibility.  She was always more worried about me getting good grades or participating in sports or the arts then to make me stand and watch her cook.    So I have been very appreciative of the meals that have been provided over the past several weeks.

Dad enjoyed eating them just as much as I did.  But I am sure that our favorites were always the desserts.   It was so nice to not have to worry about what we were going to eat.  All I had to do was open the fridge and pull something out or pop something in the oven to heat it back up.   So thank you to all of you who have brought food over to the house.

I want to thank everyone for the over 100 cards that you sent or that your children made.  This town is definitely helping keep Hallmark and the United States Postal Service in business.   We shared as many of them as we could with Mom.   Even if she did not completely understand or see them, each one of them was opened or read by one of us.  Your words of encouragement or acknowledgement of prayers went a long way.

I would like to thank those that offered to come and sit with Mom or came and prayed with her.   I know that we did not allow everyone this privilege but for many of you, I know that it is for the best that you remember Mom the way that she was prior to getting sick.

I know that many of you always wanted to know what to do.  And for the most part all we could tell you was to pray.   And those prayers were felt.  Those prayers were coveted.  Those prayers were most appreciated.  So thank you for all of the prayers.

I would like to thank all of my co-workers and friends for all of their support from a distance.  Some of you are here today.   The emails, texts, and Face Book messages were all read.  I know that Mom never really got into all of the technology, but I appreciated it.   I know that I didn't always respond, but they all meant a lot.

I want to thank all of you who left messages on the Caringbridge site.  I know that many of you appreciated the updates and left notes of encouragements. I also want to thank everyone for the love and support that I got from many of my old friends that live right here.  It has been nice to come home for several weeks and spend time with many of you.  And even though it has been years since the love that bonded all of us together started, it feels like the love has never gone away.  And Mom would be pleased.

Lastly, I want to thank everyone for coming today.  Mom meant a lot to all of you in different ways.  Whether you taught with her, whether you sang with her, played bells with her, let your children learn from her.  Whether she fed you, sent you a card, or treated you as one of her own, it means a lot to all of us that you are here to remind us of how many lives Mom touched and how much her love spread.

So from my heart to yours Thank you.

And just like a did this time last year, I am going to say thank you again.

There have been messages, phone calls, cards, meals, wine, thoughts and prayers.   And I am so appreciative of all of them from all of you.

From my Redwoods Family, my small group, my friends (both new and old), my family and countless others.... I have had people both near and far provide love and support to me during a week that I was in greatest need.   There always seemed to be a message, a hug, or a person there when I needed it the most.

And for all of that I would like to tell everyone thank you.

The grieving continues but so does the healing.  The crying still happens, but so do the smiles.   The memories are there but the good ones are starting to take over the bad.

I have no idea what the next year holds.  However, I am so glad that I have each and everyone of you in my life.   Thank you for all of your love and support.
